Ai o q é isso??? Eu fiquei descontrolado... (e o que um tripulante deve trazer na bagagem) --- Oh what is this?? I was out of control ... (and what a crewmember should bring in the luggage)

MY ONBOARD KIDS: FERNANDA,
ALEXANDRE & RODRIGO

E ai galera blz? Tomara q sim…
What’s Up? I hope you are ok...

For here all right. Guys thanks for all the comments and please forgive me for not answering all the messages. Na Cabine is becoming a pop icon of the aspiring crew, as important as life jacket. LOL

CIVITAVECCHIA, ITALY

I'm well in recent days, but last week I had a slight emotional lapse because the last band of Brazilians that use to work directly with me disembarked. It was a big "thump" when I was back to work and I didn't hear some friendly voices in the dish wash. There was a period this week that I was the only Brazilian working in the restaurant.

VERY GOOD FRIENDS DISEMBARKING...

Even with the arrival of a new crowd with some very cool people and the remaining Brazilians working in the restaurant and other departments I've become the "Last of the Mohicans" in the Beachcomber. I already completed 7 months on board, wich means that I already finished the regular contract, I'm in the "extra time".

Ai o q é isso??? Fiquei descontrolado…
Oh what is this?? I was out of control ...

CREW DINNER

There was a crew dinner at the Island Restaurant on the eve before of the staff that mentioned back to Brazil; then we went to the staff bar. Dance comes, dance goes, I already had taken a few glasses of "spreezy" (white wine mixed with Sprite) and I was a bit happy: when from the hand of a friend from Rio de Janeiro "appears" a Brazilain funk cd.

CREW DINNER

Quem me conhece sabe o quanto “amo” esse ritmo. Fiquei desontrolado… uahahhahahahhaha

Anyone who knows me has some idea about how I don’t like this kind of music. As we say in Brazil: “I paid for my tongue” here in Europe: I danced Brazilian funk like a crazy. Paula (the cd’s owner) said that I looked like I was born a funk dancer. I was completly out of control, LOL

FLORENCE, ITALY

Cupboard News to Luciana Vilela (what should a crewmember bring in the luggage)

Well "Lu" is a great friend of mine about to join a ship and she wants to know the cabinet size and what to bring on board. (I just gotta her confirmation: she will join the Island Star).

Each crew member has their individual locker, some of which has its own key others require a padlock, I suggest a small lock and sturdy. My closet has one feet more of my height (about 2.10 m) and three feet wide by three deep (did you get the idea??, LOL), three drawers and a small subdivision on top. Also, I have a "big drawer" under the bed that I use to store shoes.

My advice is to bring a "camp's backpack" (my Boy Scouts friends knows what that means): just a few things! Especially for those who will disembark here in Europe: some of the staff who left the ship is spending a lot of money on overweight luggage. It seems that each kg cost around E$ 35 (euros). I heard that some Brazilian paid almost US$ 500 because of the luggage.

For unless you spend the staff of the crew always ends up buying stuff. Naples is a feast for shopping. Here in Europe July and August were months of sales. And the good deals are still being held in the ship's stores for the crew, all tax free, for us Brazilians it is much cheaper. Before visiting the shops: check on the ship's rules for the crew in public areas.

Vale a pena trazer:
It is worth bringing:

-a good pair of shoes to work, you can invest in it, preferably comfortable shoes, I highly recommend one of the models with shock, those who "have a plastic bubble on the side of the sole." I'm already using my third pair. Good shoes here is much more expensive comparing to Brasil.

- some t-shirts. I suggest bringing at least one T-shirt with prints of the own country, because there is always some theme party which it is cool to wear it.

-2 bermudas/short e 2 calças (jeans e pano).

-2 Shorts and 2 pants (denim and cloth). If is possible try to find out about your uniform and if you can bring you own clothes for that. It may be easier and cheaper to bring in some pieces like white shirts and black pants.

-roupa íntima e meias, inclusive das pretas pro trabalho. Pras garotas meia calças cor da pele. Cinto preto.
-underwear and black socks for working. For the girls pantyhose skin color. Black belt.

- 1 sneakers and 1 slipper (Havainas on here is fancy and expensive). Some uniforms like the bar server daily one allows the use of tennis, but in my case I have to wear shoes all the time.

-swimsuit / bikini and sarong (you still have some chance to go on the beach)

-Toiletries at your preference, pliers, nail clipper and shaver.

- Winter clothing (the summer is about to end in here, and the Escape back to Brazil only in late November, the cold is strong here), but without exaggeration. Most ships always seeks the summer, try to find out your itinerary but there are several cruises for Alaska, Norway, Baltic Sea, which are very cold places.

-towels and blankets, only if you really want your own things. The ships provide it for you.

- VERY IMPORTANT: an alarm clock that you trust. The cabins have the alarm system on the phone but I had problems with cabin mates that turns off the alarm and did not wake me. Each one of us is responsible for being on time for work.

- para quem gosta de ler uns 2 livros.
- For those who like to read two books

- Discman, mp3, ipod, with some music from your country: depending on the time outside your place you will miss until things that you don't like!

- For the girls: hair dryer and flat iron on this ship are not allowed. But I know in some ships you can hve permission to use it after product safety inspection.

- For those who use glasses, I suggest an extra pair. The eye contact lens I would not recommend for the working hours due to the air conditioning.

- If you have laptop, it helps during the free time to watch movies, play music, organize photos, etc. Prices and variety here in Europe has been a strong draw for the crew and many of them have already bought. Worth is the tip to buy it in a large shop, retail chain kind in a city where the ship will dock again. A friend of mine just found it on the ship that the lap top screen does not work so in the next day even in a different Spanish city he went to another store of the brand and had the unit replaced with no problem.

- Photo Camera bring it if you have one. Otherwise you probably will buy one for sure: in the ship or in some of the ports. Almost all crew members have it and you'll also want yours. After all, you will visit so many different places and meet such different people that certainly are worth recording.

- Guarana powder could be nice for people like me that prefer to sleep just a few hours in the intention to take the time off to go out of the ship. A Romanian guy has taught me to preparer a "bomb drink": mix a cup coffee, coke and energy drink. You have to slowly and gradually mixing the ingredients because it makes a hell of a foam. The taste is not pleasant and I really do not know if it makes any harm to health but that help me to stay awake for work.

Remember:
-You will come to the ship to work so you will wear a uniform most of the time. Washing clothes on board is sucks ² (squared): few machines, sometimes some are broken and you will need to keep an eye on, because leaving the clothes alone washing or drying generating drawbacks: as someone taking the clothes ahead of time to also be able to use the machine or even worst:something yours being stolen. The uniform is cleaned and pressed by the companie for free.
Women in most departments will have to use hair tied. Makeup and and accessories in very discrete way, according to the ships’ rule.

- WHO COMES TO THE ISLAND ESCAPE: PLEASE BRING MESOME MAGAZINES ... ESPECIALLY HAVING THE VIEW OF THE WEEK. If you have a Hermes & Renato DVD you can bring it. I miss watching Brazilian TV, even what is not that good, I mean some programs the absence is a relief.

Acho q é isso… bjs love you!!!
I guess that is all... kisses, love you!
