Os primeiros dias no Soberano --- The first days on the Sovereign

Hey guys, what´s up?! I hope you are ok...

No dia 07 de julho embarquei no Soberano. Ainda no Brasil encontrei o Paulao da animacao e chegando em Barcelona conheci outros tripulantes. Passamos uma noite no hotel e apesar de estar em Barcelona nao sai por conta do cansaco e do custo que teria para ir do hotel até o centro da cidade e ainda precisava estar acordado logo cedo para ir para o porto.

On July 7 I boarded the Sovereign. At airport in Brazil I met Paulao who works at animation and arriving in Barcelona met other crew members. We spent one night in the hotel and despite being in Barcelona I prefered not leave because of the weariness and the cost that I would have to go to the hotel to the city center and still had to be up early to go to the harbor.

Dividi o quarto do hotel com um garcom peruno muito legal, o Martin. Na manha do embarque depois do cafe da manha quando tentamos pegar nossas as malas a porta travou e nenhum funcioanrio conseguia abri-la. O motorista encarregado de nos levar além de ser mega grosseiro nao esperou nem sequer por uma resposta nossa, simplesmente foi embora com os demais tripulantes.

I shared the hotel room with a very nice Peruvian waiter, Martin. In the departure morning departure after breakfast when we try to get our suitcases the door was locked and nobody could open it. The driver in charge of taking us beyond being very rude not even waited for a response from us, simply left with the other crew.

O funcionario do hotel até chegou a sugerir o onibus publico, mas nao concordamos e como aquela havia sido uma falha deles um taxi nos foi providenciado, afinal estavamos com varias malas. No navio logo fui encontrando alguns rostos familiares e passando pela bateria de formularios a serem preenchidos e de treinamentos.

The hotel recepcionist suggest us to get the public bus, but we do not agree as that was them fails so they provided us a taxi, after all we were with several bags. On the ship I found some familiar faces and I had to go through the battery of forms to be filled and trainings.

O Sovereign é um barco maior que o Empress, as lojas sao maiores e o crew bar além de grande é no traseira do navio e a ceu aberto. Talvez por conta do tamanho a impressao que tenho ate o momento é de as pessoas sao mais distantes aqui. Confesso estar tentando me entrosar, mas por muitos momentos sinto muitas saudades do barco anterior e do pessoal de la.

The Sovereign is a bigger boat than the Empress, and the so the shops, the crew bar is great addition to thesize is at the back of the ship and on the open sky. Perhaps because of the size by the moment I have the impression that people on here are more distant. I confess to be trying to mingle, but many times I miss the previous ship and it's personal.

A rota daqui eu ja conheco praticamente tudo, apenas o porto de La Goulette naa Tunisia que nao conheco ainda e ainda nao consegui descer, pois quase sempre temos exercicio de emergencia e o barco sai cedo do porto. Os demais portos sao: Barcelona, na Espanha; Napoles, Civitavecchia e Livorno, na Italia e Villefranche na Franca.

The itinerary here I already know almost everything, only the port of La Goulette inTunis I do not know yet and still not going out because there are always emergency drill on this port and the ship has early departure from the harbor. The other ports are: Barcelona, in Spain; Naples, Civitavecchia and Livorno in Italy, and Villefranche in France.

No trabalho tive longos e cansativos dias, principalmente na segunda semana. Por conta da mudanca de gerentes passamos todos os dias contando e conferindo estoque. Nos ultimos dias todos estavamos com olheiras e muito cansados, eu simplesmente nao aguentava mais ver listas de numeros. Imagine que cada produto tem numeros com oito digitos e nem todas as folhas vem organizadas em ordem numerica.

At work I had long and tiring day, especially in the second week. Due to the managers handover we spent all days counting and doing inventory. In the last day we were all very tired with dark eyes circles and I just could not take it anymore seeing lists of numbers. Imagine that each product has eight-digit numbers and not all the pages is arranged in numerical order.

Na primeira semana consegui sair algumas e vezes e como a supervisora das lojas estava bordo fomos todos das lojas almocar juntos em Napoles. Realmente comer em Napoles é algo muito bom. Na vida social ando bem calmo, por opcao e nos ultimos dias por conta de saude. Me saiu um furunculo na perna e logo em segui peguei uma gripe forte. O legal foi que o pessoal do centro médico daqui foi super atencioso e fui muito bem tratado, o que nao é uma realidade em todos os barcos quando um tripulante precisa de tratamento médico.

In the first week I got out from the ship a few times and as the shops supervisory was on board all the shops team went for lunch together in Naples. Actually eat in Naples is a very good thing. My social life had been pretty calm, for option and in the last days because of my health. I had a boil on my leg and on the sequence I caught a bad cold. The cool thing was that the medical center staff here were really helpful and I was treated very well, which is not a reality in all ships when a crew member needs medical treatment.

Civitavecchia

Pra terminar minha cabine é bem legal e meu companheiro é um Peruano, o Emanuel que trabalha comigo nas lojas. Vou curtir um pouco de Civitavecchia e logo escrevo mais. Apenas tres semanas longe de casa e ja morro de saudades da familia, da comida e de televisao brasileira.

To finish my cabin is nice and my room mate is a Peruvian, Emmanuel who works with me in the stores. I will enjoy a bit of Civitavecchia and then write more soon. Only three weeks away from home and I already miss my the family, food and Brazilian television.

Dias frios na Noruega --- Cold days at Norway

Bem minha ultima semana no Empress foi o inicio do novo itinerário da Pullmantur od Fjords da Noruega, que eu já conhecia de dois outros barcos. Havia bastante expectativa e tensão na preparação de todos os detalhes para que tudo saisse perfeito para os passageiros. Nas lojas foi uma semana movimentada pois, alem de continuarmos recebendo mercadoria ainda tivemos a visita da supervisora de vendas da comapnhia.

Well my last week at the Empress was the beginning of the new route of Pullmantur through the Fjords of Norway, which I already knew from other two boats. There was plenty of expectation and tension in the preparation of every detail so that everything would perfect for the passengers. In the stores it was a busy week, in addition to continue receiving the goods we had the visit of our company sales supervisor.

Pessoalmente eu acho a rota muito bonita e interessante, mas confesso que não é um itinerário que me agrade para fazer uma temporada completa, por essa razão estava contente por fazer apenas um cruzeiro na Noruega. Infelizmente não tive a oportunidade de fazer passeios nos portos, mas a fria temperatura não me seduz e naqueles portos as coisas são muito caras: uma cerveja chega a custar 10 euros. Para quem esta a trabalho e querendo juntar algum dinheiro essa não é a melhor rota.

Personally I think the the route is very beautiful and interesting but I confess that there is a route that do not pleasure me to do a full season, therefore I was happy to just make a cruise in Norway. Unfortunately I didn´t have the opportunity to go any excursions in the ports but the cold temperature does not entice me and on those ports things are very expensive: a beer can cost 10 euros. For us that work on the ship and were trying to save some money that is not the best route.

Por outro lado a visão de quando o navio passa pelos fjords é maravilhosa, realmente fascinate. Quase congelei em uma escapada para tirar fotos senti minha pele arder de tanto frio. Nesse cruzeiro tivemos uma pernoite surpresa em Stavanger, mas que foi um grande frustração pois alem do frio estava chovendo, era domingo a noite, havia somentes alguns bares abertos e não havia lugar para trocar dinheiro. Consegui sair naquele baita frio e tive apenas o trabalho de me molhar e voltar correndo pro navio pra pegar o bar da tripulação aberto e conseguir comprar alguma bebida.

On the other hand the view when the ship sail through the fjords is wonderful, it is really fascinating. I nearly froze on a getaway to take pictures, I felt my skin burning from the cold. In this cruise we had a surprise overnight in Stavanger but that was a great frustration because besides the cold it was raining, it was Sunday night, there was just a few bars open and there was no place to change money. I managed to leave that hell of cold and I only to get wet so I ran back to the ship in time to get the crew bar open and being able to buy a drink.

Foi nesse cruzeiro que conheci meu único novo pais dessa temporada a Dinamarca, pois o navio fazia embarque de passageiros em Copenhaguem e por causa de uma entrega de mercadorias quase perco a oportunidade de visitar a cidade. Consegui dar uma boa caminhada pela cidade e tive a grata surpresa de encontrar a Laura, amiga aregntina que estava passeando por la. O lugar é bonito e uma das coisas que mais chama a atenção é a quantidade de bicicletas estacionadas pela cidade e detalhe sem cadeados e ninguem rouba. As pessoas também saõ bem bonitas, mas o frio é forte e os preços também saõ um pouco caros.

It was in this cruise that I visited my only new country of this season: Denmark this season, because the ship was boarding in Copenhagen and due of a delivery of goods I almost lose the opportunity to visit the city. I managed to take a nice walk around town and I was pleasantly surprised to meet Laura, an argentinian friend who was walking through it. The place is beautiful and one of the things that stands out is the number of bicycles parked in the city, detail without locks and no one steals. People are also very beautiful but the cold is strong and prices are also a bit expensive.

Nos demais portos aproveitei para tirar novas fotos, sentir um pouco de frio e usar as limiadas conexões de internet que encontravamos. Nesse cruzeiro também tive a oportunidade de voltar (por uma semana) a função de assistente da gerente e apesar do meu cansaço, foi algo bem legal de fazer. No fim do dia as idas ao bar da tripulação exigia o uso de pesadas roupas de frio, pois o lugar parecia uma geladeira, quase ninguém saia pra fumar ou o fazia rapidamente. Já era possivel também observar o dia claro as 3 horas da manhã.

In the other ports I took the opportunity to take new pictures and to feel some cold and use the limited internet connections. In this cruise I also had the opportunity to go back (for one week) the role of assistant manager and despite my fatigue, it was something really cool to do. At the end of the day the "trips to the crew bar" required the use of heavy warm clothes, because the place looked like a refrigerator, hardly anyone leave the place for smoking or made it quickly. It was also possible to observe the clear day at 3 o'clock in the morning.

Minha noite de despedia foi bem legal, inventei mais uma daquelas minhas festas ClubEmpress e homenagei a Madonna, mas o grande momento da noite foi quando comecei a mostrar fotos de todo o contrato, o pessoal dançava olhando os telões e torcendo para aparecer em alguma imagem.

My farewell night was pretty cool, I made another one of those my ClubEmpress parties honoring Madonna but the big moment of the night it was when I began showing photos of the contract, the staff was dancing and watching the screens to check if they appear in some of the image .

Enfim foi um contrato de grandes realizações profissionas e tive a oportunidade de conhecer mais pessoas incriveís. Confesso que em alguns momentos por razões pessoais tive vontade de desistir, mas sou imensamente grato de ter conseguido ficar e ter vivido muito do que vivi no Empress. Meu desembarque foi em Trondhein, na Noruega, onde tive de esperar uma noite até voar por mais de 15 horas até chegar em ksa.

Anyway that was a great contract for profesional accomplishments and I had the opportunity to meet more amazing people. I confess that at sometimes for personal reasons I felt like to quit, but I am immensely grateful for staying and experienced much of what I did at the Empress. I disembarked in Trondhein, Norway, where I had to wait a night to fly for more than 15 hours before arriving in home.
