--- All that you can't leave behind!

MY PRIENDS: THE PERFECT TIME IN BARBADOS

NICE TO MEET YOU OCTAVIAN

HZ GIFT SHOP TEAM 2013

E ai galera bla?!  Espero que sim...
What’s up folks?!  I hope you are all ok…

Despite this time without posting I'm still onboard and in the same contract. About two months ago I was transferred from the Empress here to Horizon. On the route of the ship already gone through many countries in Europe, North Africa, just finished a crossing and I am now sailing in the Caribbean and counting the days to go on vacation (I hope so because I already had my disembarking date changed twice). I confess that at first moment I did not want to change the ship and I asked to remain where I was. But I had no choice: my boss said it was necessary and important to do this change. So I had a week in a hurry to fix various details, after all I was already preparing myself for the Brazilian season in my department. Packing was a drama part as I was scheduled to disembark in Brazil I allowed myself to buy "a few things" bigger and heavier. Anyway it was with some sadness that I left the Empress.

The Horizon is a ship that I have much affection for the time she was the Island Star and also for my last contract here. Although there was many people that I already knew I a new reality came across to me: French passengers and French as main language onboard (I do not speak French), many crew from: Morocco, Tunisia and Mauritius Islands and just a few women as crew. In my team almost all of them have unusual names for me and it took me at least a week to learn how to pronounce some of them. Today I can write almost all of these names without having to consult the crew list.

The change of ship brings some fresh air and sometimes can even take a relieved the stress, but I had to redo several trainings, adapt to operational details of my department and meet the people. Actually meet people was one of the best things from this transfer. I met so cool people that I hope to keep in touch with forever. This ship really has something different and I already can imagine it will be a little drama to leave this fellas. My team as any other has things to fix but overall is a very good team, several of them come from different cultures to me and almost every day I learn something about their customs.

In one of this inexplicable encounters I met three new "little brothers" which with we are not able to keep in touch in the future they will be special at least for this actual moment: Daniel (Colombia), Johancito (Mexico) and Diveshy (Mauritius); are 2 photographers and 1 videographer. The girls (Luciana and Valerie) sometimes join us and we had already even cabin party without booze. There is only a "problem" between us: when one of us says "let's go to the crew bar for a beer", believe we NEVER have just ONE beer ... Overall there is a cool group on board and if was not the tiredness and longing for family and friends, I would stay on board a couple of months more with them.

On the matter of visiting new places I have only Palamos to add, a very interesting Spanish town near Barcelona, which is imagine is excellent in the summer. And this week I visited Fort de France in Martinique and La Romana in the Dominican Republic. And I had really nice days in ports which I already knew: Malta , Livorno, Civitacecchia, Mykonos, Barcelona, Barbados, Marmaris among others . I had two different days in Casablanca, because one of the gift shop attendants, Soufiane led me to explore other parts of the city along with Yassin (his friend and former crew from MSC cruises) and the tour always ended with a lot of Moroccan food and on these days I didn't eat nothing else for the rest of the day. Besides the quantity (I think it is a arabic custom because in Egypt with Ehab was the same) and the food is really well seasoned and very delicious: I loved Tangine . Something strange happened to me in Piraeus: as I went out from the port 3 motorcycles with 6 cops stopped me from nowhere in the middle of the street asking for documents and searching my bag . It was weird because they were rude and attitude changed only after I speak to them in English and show my crew pass. After that they let me go and I could not understand anything, would I look like Greek criminal?

On my second day board as I went out of the ship in Barcelona I look to the side and the old Island Escape was docked next to us. It was a very strong emotion: imagine I am onboard the old Island Star and meeting the old Island Escape; I do not think twice and ran to the ship's gangway and the actual security guards were very kind and attentive. I managed to talk with Robert, Alina and Abraham. A few days later the ships met again in Civitavecchia and could meet Octavian, son of Robert and Helena that we celebrated the birth onboard the Escape. It  was  all  very  fast  and  emotional,  but  it was  another  fact  that  made the  transfer  worth. In  Piraeus  something  cool  happened:  I  found totally  by  case,  nothing  matched: Barbara  (also a crew blogger  and   now  she  is  on  board  one  of  the  Norwegian  ships) and stayed half an hour chatting in the harbour.

I need to stop now ... I have to work ... maybe on holidays I write more about this contract?!! Kisses homesick for family and friends! And dreaming with the home's sofa!
